Typewriters that every collector should own! The best machines that I have used.

(Click on Typewiter name link to be taken to that machine).

Manuals:

#1: Smith Corona Super Sterling

#2: Royal Quiet De Luxe "Arrow" (1948/49)

#3: Remington Rand "All New" 1949-1950

Electrics:

#1: Smith Corona Office Electric CT-250 (Electric Backspace)

#2: Smith Corona Coronet Super 12, Also called "Coronet Automatic", "Coronet Electric" These models were also rebadged as Sears and Montgomery Ward machines. The Coronet "Electrics" feature manual return levers as opposed to the "Automatics" that feature an electric (key) return.

Smith Corona machines are my all time favorite electric typewriters! They are solid machines and last for decades without fail! They are fairly portable (much more so than an IBM Selectric)! THey also come in many different colors and styles to suit your style. If you are looking for an easy to use typewriter, this is the one for you! In my opinion, these are, hands down, THE best electric typewriters out there! There are lots of them still out there and you can find them for a steal at your local thrift store.

Honorable Mention: IBM Selectric. The IBM Selectric did not make my list of favorite machines because they are extremely complicated and are difficult to repair, when something goes wrong. I will say, I have owned my Selectric II from the mid 70's for almost 4 years now and it is still going strong! If they were used often, they will usually continue to be reliable. If not, that is where problems arise. Although, I have brought them back from the dead.
